What do our toddler evaluations look like?
Children under the age of 2 are evaluated by our psychologist through the following steps:
- Parent Interview: A detailed discussion with parents.
- Developmental Assessment: A thorough evaluation of the child’s development.
- Feedback Session: A review with parents to discuss the diagnosis, strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations.
Appointments typically last 3–5 hours, followed by a comprehensive written report summarizing the findings.
What do evaluations look like for children above the age of 3?
Diagnostic evaluations for children aged 3 and older involve two to three appointments:
Diagnostic Interview
A one-hour session with parents to gather detailed information about the child’s development and symptoms. Parents may complete rating scales, and forms may be provided for teachers or caregivers. This session helps determine the appropriate assessments for the testing phase and allows the psychologist to address parental concerns. It is essential for the child to attend this session.
Testing Appointment
Scheduled a few weeks after the interview, this session involves evaluating:
- Cognitive abilities or developmental level
- Social interaction
- Communication
- Emotional functioning
- Behavior
- Adaptive skills
This session typically lasts 3–5 hours.
Feedback Appointment
Scheduled on the same day or shortly after testing, this session provides parents with a detailed explanation of the findings and recommendations. A comprehensive written report summarizing the results is provided after the evaluation.
What are the costs and what about insurance?
Talk About Therapy understands that evaluations are an important investment in your child’s future. We currently offer the following payment options:
Insurance Reimbursement
If we are not in-network with your insurance, we can provide a superbill for you to submit for out-of-network coverage. Many insurance plans offer some reimbursement for out-of-network services. Check with your provider to determine available benefits.
Self-Pay Rates
Diagnostic Interview: $275
This initial session helps evaluate your child’s development and provides guidance on whether a full evaluation is necessary.Full Evaluation: $1,700–$2,300
Includes two additional appointments (testing, report writing, and feedback session). The exact cost depends on the child’s age.

Yes, we do! We offer Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy at two convenient locations: one in the Smyrna/Vinings area and the other in the North Druid Hills/Brookhaven area.
